Through drawing, painting, and printmaking, I explore the magic inherent in our world and how people interpret this magic into stories and art. Our art is shaped by the ever-evolving, naturally occurring form of magic: the planet on which we live. My work is inspired by forms of nature, our interpretations of it in the stories we make, and explores the creation of art as a human act.

My identity as a BIPOC woman often isolates me from community. My saving grace comes through viewing art made by others and making it myself. Learning about art’s influence in culture and the connections we gain through it has shaped the trajectory of my life, centering it around creating. This has carried me through many important moments, and I hope to guide more people to the fulfilling power of practicing art. I have taught at Marine Mills Folk School and through ArtistYear, an AmeriCorps program. I have recently completed Highpoint’s Teaching Artist Learning Community program for BIPOC artists.

In my teaching experience, people of all ages are afraid of making something less than perfect. This causes many to believe they can’t make art. I want to teach people that the purpose of creating isn’t to make something flawless. Humans have been making art since we had the power to think, and it isn’t limited to only masters of the craft. No matter its finished form, whether one interacts with it as a maker or a viewer, art is valuable. It is never too late to participate in its creation.
