Lanesboro Arts presents “You Are Here”, an exhibition featuring the work from Twin Cities-based painter Sarah Nicole Knutson. The show opens on Saturday, October 24 and runs through December 20, 2020. This collection of surreal watercolor urban and suburban landscapes offers a reflective experience for the viewer. Knutson is drawn to the concepts of falling apart and coming together. Using these concepts, Knutson uses water to abstract and push the “paper and paint to their limit as pigment breaks apart and paper begins to warp – transforming the image into an object.”
Painting from either her memory or exploratory photographs, Knutson’s abstracted monochromatic landscapes create a sense of space and pause that prompts inner dialogue and reflection in the viewer. The intimacy of her work invites closeness with the viewer that reveals an inventive complexity. Her emphasis on an overall beautiful but poignant aesthetic seduces a sense of empathy or thoughtfulness for a suggested human presence.
Twin Cities-based artist Sarah Nicole Knutson specializes in quiet contemporary watercolor painting and bodily sculpture. Sarah received a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design in 2018. She currently works at the Minneapolis based gallery, Public Functionary, and maintains a studio practice in Studio 400 as an artist and space manager. Sarah produces exhibition opportunities and community events at various pop-up locations, taking inspiration from her contemporary research through an east coast lens. She participates as an artist and curator annually during Miami art week in conjunction with Art Basel.
