With the leaves turning and colder weather slowly creeping in, it’s safe to say that spooky season is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than with a horror movie! Even better, what about a horror movie filmed right here in Lanesboro?
On October 20th at 7:00 pm at the St. Mane Theatre, see the premiere of Voice of Shadows, a horror film by director and writer Nick Bain. This gripping story was filmed at Lanesboro’s own Thompson House Bed and Breakfast!
In Voice of Shadows, Gabriel (Guillermo Blanco), a working class man, finds himself trying to prevent his traumatic past from repeating when his girlfriend, Emma (Corrinne Mica), inherits a seemingly haunted estate from her great aunt Milda (Jane Hammill). While living there with Gabriel’s sister Celeste (María José Vargas Agudelo), they must abide by a bizarre set of rules. It soon becomes clear – with strange and supernatural occurrences – that someone or something does not want Gabriel in the house. See the full trailer HERE.
The movie also stars Bee Vang as Father James, Martin Harris as Ernesto, and Michael Paul Levin as Father John. Viewers may also recognize frequent Commonweal Theatre cast member, Betti Battocletti as Mrs Birdie!
In a 2022 interview with the Fillmore County Journal, director Nick Bain described the film as “a story about cults, faith, and trying to get ahead from a working class position. It’s technically a horror film, but more of a psychological thriller with some scares.” The Thompson House, owned by Marti and David Gray, was exactly the kind of epic Victorian setting Bain was looking for. The 1870s brick Italianate home is host to about 70% of the film, which also includes shots of the landscape and roadways surrounding Lanesboro.
