Join area singer-songwriters for a unique acoustic musical experience with the first Songwriters in the Round concert at the St. Mane Theatre. On Saturday, April 27th at 7 pm, audience members will be immersed into this intimate concert setting, where local and regional musicians will share their original songs, along with the inspirations and stories behind them!
Each concert in this three part series will be presented in a Nashville-style round robin format, which removes the usual distractions of a normal gig, and allows the audience to be drawn into the emotional heart of each song. Future Songwriters in the Round concerts will take place on Saturday, June 29th, and Saturday, October 5th.
The musicians featured in April’s Songwriters in the Round are Clay Fulton (Rochester), Luke Hendrickson (Rochester), Ann Lowe (Lanesboro), and Sarah Peterson (Lanesboro).
Tickets for Songwriters in the Round on April 27th are $20 ($15 Lanesboro Arts Members).
For those who are curious about the songwriting process, each Songwriters in the Round concert will also offer a paired Songwriting Workshop led by one of the night’s performers. Register to participate for only $5. No experience necessary. Click here to learn more about April 27th’s workshop: Giving Your Song Muscles from 2-3:30 pm at the St. Mane Theatre Upstairs Studio.
Featured Musicians:
Clay Fulton is a singer-songwriter based out of Rochester, MN. With his songwriting falling under the genres of Americana and Roots Rock, he draws his influence from classic folk singers up to more modern Indie Rock bands. He balances smart storytelling with serious but playful musical arrangements to support them. Clay wants you to feel the angst, frustration and grit of the ups and downs of love and life, all while leaving you with a sign of hope. Fulton and his band, The Lost Forty, have spent the past couple years gaining local support and performing with acts like: Charlie Parr, NUR-D, The Big Wu, Yam Haus, Them Coulee Boys, Kiss The Tiger, The Suburbs and many more.
After years of playing in bands on weekends, Luke Hendrickson began nurturing a career as a full-time working musician and songwriter in 2017. In the time since, he has performed in 40 states, as well as Canada and the United Kingdom, releasing 2 studio albums, and earning nominations from the Midwest Country Music Organization, for awards such as “Songwriter of the Year” and “Album of the Year”. Having emerged from the farmlands of rural southern Minnesota, Luke is sometimes joined by his backing band, The Crop Circles. Cosmic. Cornfed.
Ann Lowe is a local singer/songwriter and recording artist who has been performing since she was a teenager. Growing up in Omaha, Nebraska in a large, musical loving family exposed her to many genres of music from Motown to Jazz and Classic Rock and Pop. But it was hearing the voice of Joan Baez on the radio that drew her to contemporary folk music. After receiving her first guitar at 16, she began writing songs as a way of making sense of the world and her feelings. It was much later when she was in a Christian Rock band that she became more serious about writing songs for the band that could be performed. Her music has been influenced by artists such as Shawn Colvin and Bonnie Raitt. She now performs with her husband, Andy, in their band, “Needy Dog”, and has recorded five CDs of original music.
Sarah Peterson has been writing songs since she was a kid and decided about 5 years back to really dive into the craft of songwriting. Since then, she has written with other songwriters all over the world. Recent success include a song on rotation on Sirus XM radio (If Country Was a Town) and two songs in rotation on Malaysian Radio Stations (Glitter and Gold, Together). With a heart for lyrics she delivers songs that break your heart and heal it at the same time. From her home base in Lanesboro she developed her first artist project last year, releasing four singles and the full six song EP ‘Singing to the Angels’. Sarah offers an eclectic blend of acoustic Folk & Americana sounds with bits of country tossed in. With vocals reminiscent of Stevie Nicks and Madi Diaz and heartfelt lyrics ala Lori McKenna Sarah is carving out her own unique space in the singer songwriter world.
Songwriters in the Round concert and workshop series is presented by Sarah Peterson in partnership with Lanesboro Arts. Sarah Peterson is a fiscal year 2024 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
