Learn to Make Polymer Clay Pens

  • August 1, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
  • St Mane Theatre – Upper Level Studio

Create your own unique writing utensil with Minneapolis-based polymer clay artist Laura Burlis! Participants ages 10 and up will roll, score, shape, and cut colorful slabs of polymer clay, a modeling clay that can be baked in a normal kitchen oven to preserve playful and vibrant works of art – in this case, barrels for an ink pen!

This polymer clay class will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Tuesday, August 1st in the second-floor studio at the St. Mane Theatre

The class will cost $15 at registration. Register online at the “Get Tickets” link above. All supplies are included with the registration fee (contact Leah Steding at leah@lanesboroarts.org if a participant is in need of financial assistance).

Burlis will teach the class to make three spiral canes. These canes are logs of polymer clay made of at least two colors that have a design running the length of the log. If you cut a cross-section of these canes, a two-dimensional spiral pattern will appear! Students will combine the cross sections to make stunning patterns to form the barrel of a pen! Students will take home their creations with baking instructions to set the polymer clay in the oven.

Laura Burlis got hooked on the magical techniques of polymer clay fifteen years ago. She enjoys teaching kids, youth, & adults how to use this brightly colored clay to make art.
