“Confluence” Artist Reception

  • October 19 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
  • Lanesboro Arts Gallery

Lanesboro Arts presents “Confluence,” an exhibition of prints and pastels by Dirk Nelson and Ian Hanesworth. The exhibit opens with an artist reception on Saturday, October 19th from 6-8 p.m. and runs through December 15th, 2019. The reception will include wine, hors d’oeuvres and live music. Always free and open to the public, Lanesboro Arts Gallery is open seven days a week through October and is closed on Mondays November through December.

This collaborative exhibition between Nelson and Hanesworth explores themes of identity within the figure. Exploring these ideas through printmaking, sculpture, painting, and drawings; they each are experimenting with what the figure looks like, how it feels, and how it makes others feel. Encouraging the viewer to experiences a similar sense of self-reflection and quiet awareness as they feel while in the process of making it. Each portraying their own aesthetic experience, but still sharing in their similar inspiration.

Artist Dirk Nelson shares, “ My work is process oriented which means that the viewer can often see evidence of the tools and materials used to create the design. I use the random accidents and mistakes that arise from the use of materials and tools to add character and meaning to the images. And if the accidents and mistakes that I cultivate in my working process suggest different meanings to different viewers, well, I enjoy it when the conversation takes a surprising turn.” Dirk received a Bachelors in Art from Winona State University and also currently resides in Winona. Ian Hanesworth writes, “Conceptually, my work addresses themes of identity and the idea of place—and the conversation between the two: what it means to be an individual within an environment and more specifically what it means to be home. My work will always be grounded in my own sense of identity, a malleable entity that is constantly subject to change.”

Ian Hanesworth is an aspiring artist from Winona, MN and is pursuing a BFA in Painting and Drawing at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design, but currently resides in Brooklyn, NY for a studio residency program. Ian’s work has been shown in various venues in Minnesota including the Winona Art Center, Homewood Studios and WSU’s Watkins Gallery have exhibited their work as part of various group shows. You can view and read more of Ian’s art work at ianhanesworth.com
