Celebrate the opening of a new 7 ft. tall outdoor sculpture with a SEMAC capstone event, with artist Ryan Palmer the creator behind Livingstone Carver, on Saturday, October 14 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. The unveiling will be in the open lot between Amish Experience and Crown Trout Jewelers (with the Lanesboro Arts Gallery as a back-up space in the case of inclement weather). Livingstone Carver will speak briefly about the vision for the piece and his creative process.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through the Minnesota State Arts Board and a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund.
About the artist:
Livingstone Carver’s gift for bringing forms out of stone wasn’t discovered until the age of 30. Although he never received artistic training, his pieces show dedicated study and command of this artform. He incorporates light, shadow, irony and a playful cleverness in his work. Some pieces lean toward realism, while others are more stylistic.
About the project:
On March 21, 2023, the Board of Directors of the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council (SEMAC) awarded 36 grants for a total of $143,810 in funding to applicants throughout southeastern Minnesota. This included four school residency grants for $11,810, fourteen emerging artist grants for $42,000, and eighteen advancing artist grants for $90,000. Livingstone Carver received a $3,000 Emerging Artist Grant grant for My Foray Into Creating Public Art.
