Lanesboro Arts is thrilled to welcome Dr. Melinda Knutson in conjunction with Lois Peterson’s “Traces of a Prairie” exhibition in the gallery. Dr. Melinda Knutson will provide a tutorial on prairies and oak savannas in the Driftless Area, with tips on how to build your passion for prairies. Do you wonder why we care about prairies? Maybe you’d like to visit some rare and beautiful prairies, volunteer to help restore a remnant prairie, plant native flowers in your yard, or advocate for preserving natural areas in Minnesota? This talk is for you if any of these things are on your wish list!
Join us on Tuesday, September 12th from 6 pm until 7:30 pm to learn more about the importance of preserving our natural land, the reservations that protect it, and finally planting sustainable prairies. A Q&A will follow Dr. Knutson’s talk and Lois Peterson’s show will be open before and after this event.
Dr. Knutson is the owner of Trillium Consulting, LLC, a land management consulting business she started after retiring from her full-time career as a wildlife biologist and ecologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. She is a member of the Prairie Enthusiasts, a non-profit land trust dedicated to the conservation and restoration of prairie landscapes. She loves to garden, bird-watch, hike, paddle, bike, and dance.
Always free and open to the public, the Lanesboro Arts Exhibition Gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday, 10 am – 5 pm plus Sundays from 11 am – 3 pm through August 31st.
Lois Peterson is a fiscal year 2024 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.
