COVID-19 update: The health of our artists, community members, visitors, staff and volunteers is at the forefront of our minds at Lanesboro Arts. Taking this into account, March events at the St. Mane Theater have been postponed and the Lanesboro Arts Gallery will be closed to the public until March 31, 2020, at which time we will assess the situation to ensure the continued health and safety of the community.
As of right now, this residency will proceed as planned with public events transformed into digital events for everyone to join (details TBA). We will continue to carefully monitor this public health situation and adjust as necessary.
“Mother Me” is a non-narrative interdisciplinary performance piece that explores the complex themes surrounding motherhood through movement, music, and storytelling. This piece is a means to understand and grapple with questions and feelings pertaining to Prescott’s own mother/daughter relationship, and biological and sociological influences on identity as a childless woman approaching mid-life.
As an artist driven to amplify underrepresented voices in Minnesota communities, One of Mary’s goals for “Mother Me” is to research, interview and share conversations with Lanesboro area community members on motherhood in order to incorporate a range of perspectives into the project. Mary aims to initiate a dialog with community members through engaging in questions that are particularly meaningful to a generation of women in the midst of shifting personal, cultural, societal and biological dynamics.
