Join artist in residence Mary Prescott for Performance and Discussion of “Mother Me”, an interdisciplinary performance piece exploring motherhood performed virtually (details TBA) on Friday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. This event will serve as the capstone to an artist residency began on March 31.
COVID-19 update: The health of our artists, community members, visitors, staff and volunteers is at the forefront of our minds at Lanesboro Arts. Taking this into account, March events at the St. Mane Theater have been postponed and the Lanesboro Arts Gallery will be closed to the public until March 31, 2020, at which time we will assess the situation to ensure the continued health and safety of the community.
As of right now, this residency will proceed as planned with public events transformed into digital events for everyone to join (details TBA). We will continue to carefully monitor this public health situation and adjust as necessary.
“Mother Me” is a non-narrative interdisciplinary performance piece that explores the complex themes surrounding motherhood through movement, music, and storytelling. This piece is a means to understand and grapple with questions and feelings pertaining to Prescott’s own mother/daughter relationship, and biological and sociological influences on identity as a childless woman approaching mid-life.
This capstone performance of “Mother Me” will be followed by an artist discussion and reflective conversation on the themes and ideas surrounding motherhood. This specific performance of “Mother Me” will include specific ties to Lanesboro and its residents, thanks to interviews, research, film, and found objects from the area by Prescott during her month-long residency. She will incorporate these into the choreography, set design, and storytelling of the performance.

Mary Prescott is a Thai-American interdisciplinary artist, composer and pianist based in Minneapolis and New York City who explores the foundations and facets of identity and social conditions through experiential performance. She aims to foster understanding and create pathways for change by voicing emotional and human truths through artistic investigation and dissemination.
Prescott’s output includes several large-scale interdisciplinary works, improvised music, an immersive multimedia chamber opera, a 365-day sound journal, film music, as well as solo and chamber concert works.
