Lanesboro Arts presents “Anthropocene” Exhibition featuring the work from ceramicist Glynnis Lessing. The show opens with a reception on Saturday, August 22 from 5-7 p.m., and runs through October 18, 2020. The reception will include wine and hors d’oeuvres, as well as live music. Always free and open to the public, gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Artist Statement: “The surface decoration is often a reflection of my love of nature and the profound restorative power of being outside. I want to share the pleasure I take in noticing the pattern of leaves, how a bird balances on a reed, the silhouettes of trees just after sundown. These things will nourish just like the food that is served or made in my pots.
Glynnis was raised mostly in the Midwest and learned to throw when she was 10. After some coursework at MacAlester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, she got my BFA at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Her work has always been mostly functional high-fire and she has worked more and more with slipped surface decoration. Much of Glynnis’ work is sgraffito on thrown porcelain but not exclusively so. Glynnis has taught at the Northern Clay Center and the Northfield Arts Guild.
