Duane obtains most of his copper from plumbing shops before it is recycled. He has experimented with many different finishes from bright and shiny to flame colored, as well as a variety of different patinas. He does not put a clear coat finish on most of his work, as it takes away copper’s ability to age and turn color naturally. Copper seemed to be an agreeable medium to him. Copper is pleasing to work with as you hammer, bend and shape the pieces. He creates smaller items like geckos, dragon flies, and then progresses to larger items such as birdbaths, bowls, garden sculptures, birds, arbors, wall sculptures, chairs, benches and tables.
