Lanesboro Arts hosts two separate artist residency programs: the Emerging Artist Residency Program, supported by the Jerome Foundation; and the BIPOC Artist Residency Program, currently supported by the MSAB Creative Support Grant. The Emerging Artist Residency Program awards two to three residencies per year to emerging artists with projects that activate the people & places of Lanesboro while instigating positive change. The new >BIPOC Artist Residency Program is a personally tailored residency program that offers residency support for Minnesota BIPOC practicing artists at all stages in their careers. The artist is welcome to use studio space for art if desired, but it is not required; there is no output or product required for this residency.

Both residency programs support artists across all disciplines. However, there are further defining characteristics of each program.

Emerging Artist Residency Program At A Glance:

-Place-based program with built-in community engagement events/workshops.
-Serves emerging artists.
-Participants must be residents of the state of MN or of one of the five boroughs of New York City.
-Residencies offered are between 2 weeks to 1 month long.
-Residency Stipends are $1250 per week.
-Application process includes an online application including a project proposal, and is reviewed by a panel of artists.
-Funded by the Jerome Foundation.
-Program was started in 2001.

BIPOC Artist Residency Program At A Glance:

-Serves Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color (BIPOC) artists.
-No specific outcome or project required. Can be used solely for restorative purposes.
-Offered to artists at any stage in their career.
-Participants must be residents of the state of MN.
-Residencies offered are between 1 week to 2 weeks long.
-Residency Stipends is $1250 per week.
-Application process is a simple application, and artists are selected via a transparent lottery system.
-This program is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Creative Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
-This new program was started in 2023.
